Intro to Teamspaces
Video Placeholder Duration: 5-7 minutes Topics covered: What are teamspaces, creating teams, team-centric work view, permissions
What are Teamspaces?
Teamspaces let you organize work by team rather than by project. They mirror your real-world team structure and consolidate each team's work across multiple projects into one unified view.
Instead of asking "What's happening in Project X?" you can ask "What's my team working on?"
Project View vs Team View
Teamspaces provide the team-centric view.
Enabling Teamspaces
Teamspaces are a Pro-tier feature:
- Go to Workspace Settings
- Select the Teamspaces tab
- Toggle Enable Teamspaces
Important: Once enabled, this setting is permanent.
Creating a Teamspace
Navigate to Teamspaces
- Find Teamspaces in the workspace sidebar
- Click Create Teamspace or New Team
Team Details
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Team Name | e.g., "Engineering", "Design", "Marketing" |
| Team Lead | Person responsible for the team |
| Members | Team members from your workspace |
| Description | Optional context about the team |
Teamspace Features
Each Teamspace provides:
Work Items View
See all work items assigned to team members:
- Filtered automatically by team membership
- Across all projects
- Unified task list
Cycles View
Team-specific cycle management:
- Consolidated timeline across projects
- Team sprint planning
Views
Custom filtered views for the team:
- Shared team perspectives
- Team-specific filters
Pages

- Team processes
- Meeting notes
- Shared knowledge
How Teamspaces Work
Automatic Filtering
When you open a Teamspace, you see:
- Work items assigned to team members
- Progress on team's tasks
- Blockers affecting the team
Cross-Project Visibility
Teams often work across projects:
Engineering Team Teamspace shows:
├── Work from Mobile App project
├── Work from Web Platform project
├── Work from Backend Services project
└── Work from Infrastructure projectTeam Progress Tracking
Workload Overview
See how work is distributed:
- Items per team member
- Overdue items
- Completion rates
Dependencies View
Identify blockers:
- What's blocking team members
- What the team is blocking
Statistics
Treemap visualization:
- Work distribution across projects
- Focus areas
Permissions and Access
Automatic Access
Teamspace membership grants Member access to linked projects.
Permission Hierarchy
When a user has multiple roles:
- Highest permission level applies
- Project Admin > Teamspace Member
- Direct project roles preserved
Unlinking Teams
When a Teamspace is unlinked from a project:
- Only teamspace-based access removed
- Direct project roles preserved
Managing Teamspaces
Adding Members
- Open the Teamspace
- Go to Members section
- Click Add Member
- Select workspace members
Removing Members
- Find member in list
- Click Remove
- Confirm removal
Linking Projects
- Open Teamspace settings
- Go to Projects section
- Link relevant projects
- Team gains access to those projects
Teamspace vs Project
| Aspect | Teamspace | Project |
|---|---|---|
| Organizes by | People | Work |
| Focus | Team's activities | Product/initiative |
| Membership | Team members | Project contributors |
| Best for | Team coordination | Deliverable tracking |
Use both together:
- Projects for organizing deliverables
- Teamspaces for team coordination
Best Practices
Mirror Your Org Structure
Create Teamspaces that match your actual teams:
- Engineering
- Design
- Product
- Marketing
- Support
Clear Team Leads
Assign leads who:
- Manage team workload
- Run team ceremonies
- Report on team progress
Regular Team Views
Use Teamspaces for:
- Daily standups
- Sprint planning
- Team retrospectives
Don't Duplicate
Avoid creating overlapping teams:
- One person per primary team
- Use project access for cross-functional work
