What is Plane x Slack? ​

The Plane Slack integration connects your project management with team chat. Create work items from conversations, get notifications, and interact with Plane without leaving Slack.

Setting Up the Integration ​

Prerequisites ​

  • Pro plan or higher
  • Workspace Admin access (for workspace connection)

Step 1: Connect Workspace ​

  1. Go to Workspace Settings → Integrations
  2. Find Slack
  3. Click Configure
  4. Click Install
  5. Authorize Plane in Slack

Step 2: Connect Personal Account ​

Individual team members connect their accounts:

  1. Go to Profile Settings → Connections
  2. Find Slack
  3. Click Connect
  4. Authorize

This enables features like Thread Sync (comments sync between Slack and Plane).

Creating Work Items from Slack ​

Method 1: Message Shortcut ​

  1. Hover over any Slack message
  2. Click the More actions (⋯) menu
  3. Select Create Work Item
  4. Fill in details in the modal
  5. Save

Method 2: /plane Command ​

/plane create bug "Login timeout on mobile"

Method 3: @Plane Mention ​

@Plane Create a high-priority bug for the checkout issue

Thread Sync ​

When creating an item, enable Thread Sync:

  • Slack thread comments → Plane comments
  • Plane comments → Slack thread
  • Keeps conversation connected

Linking Existing Items ​

Connect Slack threads to existing work:

  1. Use message shortcut
  2. Select Link Work Item
  3. Search for the item
  4. Link established

Now the thread and work item are connected.

Channel Notifications ​

Project Notifications ​

Configure channels to receive updates:

  1. Go to project settings
  2. Find Slack notification settings
  3. Select a channel
  4. Choose what triggers notifications:
    • New high-priority items
    • Items completed
    • Comments added
